Pattern: Cable Twist Socks, from Hello Yarn
Yarn: Fortissima Socka, #1035, 2 skeins
Needles: Addi Turbos, US 2 (3.0mm)
I liked Grumperina’s so much I had to make myself a pair.
I mostly knit the pattern straight, except for doing 12 rows of ribbing at the top—I basically converted the middle stitch of each soon-to-be-cable-twist into a purl—making them ankle-length, and then doing a short-row heel.
The finished socks are a wee bit short. I may wind up ripping out the toes and making them just a tad longer. Even so, I am zeroing in on the magical sock formula that will make socks that perfectly fit my feet.

It’s winter break (yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!) and that means visiting family and eating tasty food (yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!) and lots and lots of guilt-free knitting time (yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!) and lots and lots of reading journal articles/paper writing (this part is for my advisor, in case he’s reading).
This is the knitting I packed for my vacation:
I packed 4 skeins of sock yarn and 5 skeins of Cascade 220 for a felted bag. I also packed both Quinn bags so I can use my mom’s sewing machine to make linings since my hand-sewing is worthless. And of course I still need to finish the Red Herring Scarf, which I frogged 18 inches of today after I discovered an error in the moss stitch border.
When all was said and done, I’d devoted more space in my suitcase to yarn and other knitterly goodness than I had to underwear and socks. Got to have your priorities straight, y’know.

After the veritable cable-fest of the last month or so, it was time to give my wrists a break.
As an aside, I seem to gravitate towards things that are hard on my poor wrists. Piano, 15-ish years of serious study; violin, 10-ish years of serious study; programming/web design, almost 10 years; and now knitting for two years. I should probably go see someone about my wrist pain, as I’m not exactly sure what the problem is. The pain tends to radiate across the back of my hand and occasionally I wake up with numb pinky fingers—not symptoms of carpal tunnel, I don’t think. I also have weird issues with my elbows.
But enough about me and the fact that I’m 25-going-on-86 and falling apart in places.
Anyways, time to do some simple little knit/purl things. Like this!
