He’s finished! He comes in at exactly 10″ long. Teeny! The patterning on the shell made him a little more box turtle-y and less sea turtle-y, but I can live with that.
Pattern: Turtle, p. 70, World of Knitted Toys, modified
Yarn: Sirdar Snuggly DK (#0377), Plymouth Dreambaby DK (#201), Baby Pure DK (#502), less than 1 skein of each

His name is Fred and I may just have to keep him, he’s so cute.

Update 06/16/2006: There was a bug in the code I originally posted. Fix is below. Apologies to anyone who tried to use the old code and couldn’t make it work.
I just installed the percentage bar script from Unlikely Words on my blog, which is a very nice little doodad.

And I added the ability to customize the color of the border around the bar.
If you’re like me and are perfectly happy to have each bar the same, except for the percentage of color filler, then you can use the following code instead. Download this file: drawPercentBar.txt

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
You will find patterns for all of the above (p. 99, 23, and 81, respectively) and many, many more creatures in World of Knitted Toys.
The book contains 45 different projects and a few variations on a theme. The finished creatures are generally adorable with nice proportions. Kath Dalmeny gleefully branches out from the world of knitted bears and sheep to give us kangaroos, rhinoceros, wombats, and Mounties.
Mounties?
Yes, there’s a pattern for a Canadian Mountie.
