I'm an adventurous beginner who decided to try her luck on this beautiful bag...but there's something about picking up the stitches that I'm totally not getting. Am I supposed to be picking up the stitches with the wrong side facing me? I've frogged this part 3 times :/

I hope you can help!

I love this bag! I have to make a earwarmer first then I am casting on...Just wondering if anyone else used the top cable to make an earwarmer? Did you decrease at all for behind the neck? Would love to hear. Great job on the pattern, and thanks...

[...] put the needles down and step away from the knitting September 16th, 2006 Apparently, I am to stupid to be allowed to knit. I am attempting to knit up Quinn; a beautiful cabled bag with wonderfully written directions, which I am unable to read. Quinn starts out by knitting a top band then picking up stitches around and knitting down. I have now knit the top band twice and have to rip it and knit it again, because of my own stupidity. *sigh* For now I am putting Quinn aside and will pick it up again later.  I need to work on something else for a while to prove that I am actually able to read directions and finish a project. Socks, maybe I’ll work on some socks. [...]

I subtracted two repeats from the top band and fudged the pickups to complete the bag over 128 stitches. I'm writing to say that this smaller version of the top band makes a great headband/earwarmer! Even my husband likes it, so I'll definitely be doing that again!
